Activity Ramps Up; The Elders Want the Apartment Empty

Well, there is a lot to report. Things have not stopped happening, the problem is that my time to report them is minimal. Considering that each post takes about 45 min. to an hour for me, and there are 505 published posts, well the math adds up to over 500 hrs. of work. That’s a big chunk of time in a working woman’s life. Time excuse aside, I know I owe a lot to ‘catch up’. I would like to… just have to find the time. A list of things to sum up activity over the missing years:

  1. Lois started to knit – and knitting is a very enjoyable activity that often intruded on blog posting.
  2. Things never did stop happening. Just my ability to write it all up and report has been compromised.
  3. The area of the house where it all began in 2009? — we rented it for the last 4 years as an apartment. The 4-year occupant just moved out in December (2017) and son Stewie is about to rent it, starting Feb. 1.
  4. Nuttah has been kidnapped – about a month ago (more on that in future post).
  5. And lastly, sadly, Niko died on my birthday in 2017, and as Niko goes, so goes Tëme.

An internet picture to depict “The Elders”

So, the best way to deal with this backlog of story, I think, is to just start with now. So this is what is happening now. Today is Saturday, January 27, 2018. Sometimes when I write that year (2018), I just can’t believe it is actually that number, so far along. I hear other people saying it too, that what used to be a month now feels like a week of time. Like time is speeding up. I feel that every day; time just slips away, speeding along. I hear young people say it too, so I know it’s not just a factor of age. I think the only people not complaining are 10 and under.

Anyway, back to TODAY. We are home, it’s Saturday. We were expecting 3 things today:

1) A firewood delivery
2) Stewie dropping off the lion’s share of furnishings as part of his move-in process to the now-empty apartment
3) An electrician to wrap up a project that was supposed to take a day (we’re now more than a week into it, because of problems encountered with this 100 yr. old house, wiring and such).

Two of these events have already postponed: 1 & 2. The electrician I’m just waiting to hear from, but given the scenario, there is a good chance he will also postpone. Why, you might wonder? Because the elders have taken over the apartment. Bob went in there last night, he says he was met with strong resistance. He says it was obvious he was not wanted in there and he was shuffled right on out. Upstairs, there was a big noise. He came back to our part of the house a bit perturbed and asked me to go over and check it out. “NO!”, I said – I don’t like putting myself in the midst of that activity, on the chance that I would perceive it, it freaks me out a bit much, like walking into a room full of ghosts. Would you do it? I think not. So why are they there? Well Bob was ‘given’ a bit of a hint overnight in a dream. He was shown that they are there, and they ‘need’ the space to be left alone and empty for their purposes. How was this information conveyed? Why did Stewie postpone, why did Mike, who was bringing the firewood delivery, postpone? Somehow they – the elders – influenced all of that too. Bob got a text from Stew this morning, that he was not prepared yet (truck rentals, etc.) for it to happen today. Bob replied that he was shown last night that this would not happen today.

Here’s how the texting went back and forth:

Stewie: Pushing back the uhaul til tomorrow if that’s okay with you, realized I still have a bunch to prep for it, plus there’s no 17 footers available

Bob’s reply: I saw that last night

Stew: Huh?

Bob: There was activity last night in the apartment, and it was made clear that you would not be here today

Stew: Wow, how?

Bob: The old joints were having some ritual when I went in and made it clear that no one would be allowed in until it was complete, they would delay stuff to ensure that that would not happen, and they kicked me out, essentially.

I guess it was more or less no surprise then when Mike postponed the firewood delivery. So what is his relevance to this scenario? We don’t get firewood in the apartment and it’s delivered to the street on ‘our’ side of the house. But Mike, coincidentally, is also the person that ran the wall replacement project. We’ve been buying firewood from him ever since, so we’re on our 9th year with Mike. The wall is relevant, because it’s when all this activity started – or thereabouts. The electrician? Well, he hasn’t postponed yet, but maybe will because electrical activity might interfere with what they are doing?

Bob just walked in to a text from the electrician: he is “feeling under the weather”, and wants to reschedule to Monday.

So there you go… all three scheduled Saturday events have been ’caused’ to not happen so that the elders can conduct their business in peace. And what is their business? They are discussing the annual ceremony that takes place about this time every year; every year since (our year) 2013 anyway. So this would have been the 5 year anniversary celebration of saving the Lenape tribe from annihilation.  Bob was part of that time-travel foray into their time to assist both with strategizing and the actual event. So was Duke/Tëme/Niko; they were instrumental. I say “They”, but they exist in the body of one. As does Bob and his (their time) avatar. Hard to explain, I won’t get into the details of this now. But Bob believes that the elders are trying to remedy the problem of not having Nuttah there to perform the proper ceremony. Nuttah is now an important Shaman (woman), and because of that, she has been kidnapped. I will get into that in another post, because Bob (and avatar) has been part of that scenario as well. Nuttah has not been able to communicate much since her kidnapping and we don’t know where she is being ‘kept’. Prior to this, we did hear from her occasionally, enough to know that she still could and would communicate. All for future posts, I did document it all.

So you see, there is lots to post. I am overwhelmed in a way with the volume/magnitude of it, but all I can do is chip away slowly, one post at a time. And leave the elders to their important task.

If you want to catch up on the past events that led to the ceremony they have now at the beginning of every year, here is a link to the one I wrote up last year, which then includes links to the event that started it:

The “dups” are rearranged with their wolf alter-egos

Remember, in our household, “Dups” = Dogs

Bob and I exchanged these emails on the morning of January 21, referring to the night before:
Bob: “Did wake to a visit, well the dups woke me with severe whining, all three whining in unison. Seemed very brief, but Nuttah was there with Teme. Don’t know what it was about, seemed brief, actually, I don’t know that, it was brief while I was awake. Lu has the silliest of whines, she needs to work on that. Niko and Red have proper whines.”

I wrote Bob back, same morning:
“Yes I knew there was a visit, there is a new arrangement on the TV dresser. What time did that happen? It seems to be all the dups and wolves piled up; she used the bark hut behind it all and she’s in the front with a heart on top of your stone facing the bed. What does it all mean? How is Teme doing, does he have hip issues still? Or you don’t know.”

I am really not sure what the nature of this visit was. Only the dogs (dups) know and they’re not talking. I asked Lucy later, she just looked at me and cocked her head funny. She seems to understand when I talk to her, understand  a lot more than we probably give her credit for. Here are pictures of what was on the bureau (and still is as I write this on 1/23:

A new arrangement with all the Niko, Red and Lucy characters that I provided.

Then I noticed that little Lu was pared with a wolf-pup! So is she just like Niko/Duke/Teme, and has an alter-ego that is a wolf?

Then I noticed that little Lu was pared with a wolf-pup! So is she just like Niko/Duke/Teme, and has an alter-ego that is a wolf?

If you click on the picture on the right, the one I have the pink circle around, you can see that Lucy has behind her (combined with her) one of the wolf-pups. Is this her wolf alter-ego? According to Bob, Niko now contains the essence of Duke and also the Teme (wolf) from their time. In fact, if something were to happen to Niko, it would also happen to the wolf (and vice versa) That much we do know. Both Niko and Teme had hip problems that started at the same time. With Teme, he got hurled against something by a bear, Bob thinks, and Niko started having serious problems with his hips/back legs then. We started taking him to a vet and having laser-treatments and acupuncture to bring him around. It really seemed to work too, at least for a year. This all started in late fall of 2014, and he did okay until recently. Now he is suffering again, and I’m afraid we may have to revisit getting some kind of ‘cart’ for Niko. He needs something like this:

If Niko had one of these, we could walk him and he could move around better. This even looks like him.

If Niko had one of these, we could walk him and he could move around better. This even looks like him. If Niko would tolerate being hooked into this thing, I think he’d really benefit from the action.

There was one other ‘event’ in January that bears writing about, and it took place on January 9th. Our kids were taking Bob out for his 60th birthday celebration. We were to meet them out at a venue in NJ, and then Stewie was going to spend the night here with us, although Bob didn’t know this until the day of the celebration. We had a great time out and then, as planned, Stewie came to spend the night. In the morning, after having more or less forgotten about his usual, timely ‘character’ arrival, I checked in the places it would normally show up and there was no sign of Stew. I chalked this up to Nuttah not picking up from Bob that Stewie was coming to spend the night, since the whole thing had developed as a surprise.

However, I mentioned this to Bob, and I guess he went and had a look around, and brought me out to the foyer to show me this:

There he was, his character showing up as he always does when Stew visits in person. We then went out to say goodbye when Stew was leaving, and by the time we came in the character was already gone.

A Christmas Day Event!

December 25, 2015 — Christmas Morning — We are officially 6 years into our “events” as of this day. It started in December of 2009. I know that is hard to believe, at least for me it is… I have a hard time with the speed at which time passes, but I believe that is one of the pitfalls of age. Bob and I are both approaching our 60th!! birthdays. Goodness, how time flies. But I divert… I came down Christmas morning, and Bob asked me to look at an email he sent. He’d been up earlier with the dogs, who always, no matter how late we try to sleep, get us up before 8 AM (or at least get Bob up by 8 AM, sometimes earlier). We are LUCKY if we can sleep til 8. So here is the text of the email:

“Came out to office with dups this morning, Niko and Lu went right to door, Niko was whining to get in, Lu was making the strangest sound, not a whine, not a bark, didn’t even know what it was at first, didn’t think it was coming from Lu. Opened the office door and all three piled in ahead of me. Found this:

2015-12-25-Cross-in-Office
So there is a cross on the office chair. I should explain “office”. It’s not the office we have in the house, it’s an outer building, and it actually now houses an elliptical exercise machine that Bob and I use. We no longer use it as an “office” per se, but still refer to it as “the office”. In the infamous Ivan flood of 2004, this building was up to its windows in water, so we no longer use it as the home office. So there this cross sat, made out of the rolled up shades that our son Stewie had hung when he, for a time, used this out-building as his bedroom. They have sat out there since, and this day, Christmas Day, Nuttah (?) had seen fit to arrange them on a chair in a cross shape. So that means she does at least understand the meaning of our holiday, which is saying something, because Christianity is not something they would have even known about. She must be picking up the clues from present day.

As always, Stewie's paper doll character mysteriously shows up whenever he arrives in person.

As always, Stewie’s paper doll character mysteriously shows up whenever he arrives in person.

But speaking of Stewie, he and his girlfriend came out to visit and to stay overnight on Christmas Day. At one point, I was wondering if the Stewie “character” had joined us yet, as inevitably, every time Stewie had visited, his paper character would also mysteriously show up somewhere too. Never in the same place, but it would always make an appearance. I hadn’t seen the character yet, and Bob reported he had not either. I have certain places I do look for the arrival of the Stewie character, and sometime later on Christmas evening, I found him. And here he is, on the hutch in the foyer, hiding behind this silly Oaxacan donkey. I have yet to post all the year’s worth of appearances of this character, but he shows up every time the actual Stewie does, and when we say good-bye to Stew, the character is always still there, and then Stewie leaves, and we come back in the house and it’s gone. I don’t have any idea where he “resides” in the intervals, but certainly nowhere that we can find him.

Is There Evil in the “Office” Again?

Bob and I exchanged a couple emails on Friday, January 10:
Bob: Forgot to check apartment this morning, could you check this morning please? I heard some fairly pronounced drums this morning, so did Niko and Red, or at least they were alert to something while waiting for me in the guest room. They were both standing alert when I came into room as opposed to the normal way they are, which is passed out.
Me to Bob: Last two nights I’ve been hearing major hums/buzzes. More last night I think. Always expect to see something but not this time.

As usual, again when Stew visits, his character makes its appearance also

As usual, again when Stew visits, his character makes its appearance also

Then that same night in the evening, the lights were on in the apartment again. Also, Stewie (and his girlfriend, Minsi) were visiting and would be staying overnight. I wondered when Stew’s character would make a showing, as he inevitably seems to do.  By the time we came back from dinner, Stew’s character had made its appearance. He was on the bureau in our bedroom where we have our (ancient) TV. He was placed right in front, in fact, when we went to use our respective remotes that night, neither of them worked because Stew’s character was apparently in the way. The next day, Saturday, January 11, Stew and Minsi left shortly after noon. I wondered how long it would be before his character was also gone. Nuttah seems to be uniquely attuned to the comings and goings of Stewie.

Later on Saturday, about mid-afternoon, Bob and I were readying to go out for the rest of the day. Bob was getting the pups out one last time and I was upstairs. Bob came in from that outing completely shaken and shaking. What he described happening outside has not happened here for a long time. In fact, I can’t even remember the last time it did, but it seems like it was more than a year ago.

As Bob related it, “Niko came to the end of the deck, and instead of doing his normal thing, going to the yard, he charges the office door. He somehow manages to jump up and get it open, and at that point some force comes flying out. I can ‘feel’ it, and Niko tangles with it”.

“What do you mean, is it dog size?”, I wonder.

A picture that I think illustrates Niko's lunge.

A picture that I think illustrates Niko’s lunge.

“No, it was bigger than me”, Bob continued, holding his arm to about the height he thought it might be, which was above his head.”Niko was completely engaged with it, teeth-baring, jumping, at one point he was literally airborne and he was suspended in the air grabbing onto something I couldn’t see and holding on with his teeth. ”

“I felt such an evil force with this ‘thing’, whatever it was… there was a lot of fear generated from it. My adrenalin is rushing, my heart is still pounding.”

Bob does not scare easily with any of these events, as we know. But he was afraid this time, which concerns me. What could it have been? What have we been hearing (and why?) for the past week? What did Niko engage with just now? And was it scared off? And just how bad could it be if Stewie’s character showed up like normal that night when he and Minsi were visiting?

Later, right before we left, I insisted on taking all 4 of the pups out again, even though we really didn’t need to. It was not that I doubted Bob’s incident (I didn’t) I just wanted to see what Niko would “remember”, if anything, and how he would react to that memory. So as the pups and I are coming out of the basement, Niko was super-aggressive towards Red as they charged out. He then went to the end of the deck and stood there and barked, something that he would not normally do, at least not there. It was then that I noticed that his hair was up on his back, a big “poof” of raised hair between his shoulder blades – fear or anxiety; one or the other. I opened the office door to see what he would do. It was still daylight, I doubt I would have done this in the dark. Niko went in, not hesitatingly, but somewhat cautiously, and went to the left around the back side of the door, sniffing. I sensed and felt nothing except the anxiety I felt coming off of Niko and a slight adrenalin rush knowing this was the location of many supernatural – and not necessarily nice – events. That was it. His hair did not go down as he perused the yard, and we wrapped it up and went back to the basement. Bob asked me how he was, and I told him all of the above, that he was definitely different. Bob stayed unnerved by his encounter with this “evil force” for a good hour or so.

The track of Ivan hit the US 3 separate times, A long, and long-lived hurricane, it was

The track of Ivan hit the US 3 separate times, A long, and long-lived hurricane, it was

I must say, this kind of “evil” event has not happened in awhile. When evil did make an appearance here, it always seemed to be centered in the office outside. There was this post, from February, 2013: “Niko Senses Something in the Office“. This “office” is a small, separate building from our house that used to be a basic garden shed. It actually has not been used as an “office” since it was flooded in the Hurricane Ivan flood of 2004, so we’re talking almost 10 years. But we did have it finished to be a home office, and for awhile there, it was quite nice. Now I sit high and dry in my makeshift “office” in the house, where a flood won’t reach me, at least a flood like Ivan won’t. The line of this “Ivan” graphic belies the fact that in southeastern PA where we are, we had 9 inches of rain in about a 3 hour period with Ivan. We were so caught up in flood stuff (and subsequent loss of power, inability to live in our home for a bit) that I was unaware that Ivan swung back down South and hit the US two more times before fizzling out near Texas. Amazing and destructive hurricane.

Later, Saturday, Stew was NOT on the dresser

Later, Saturday, Stew was NOT on the dresser

But we are now left to wonder if this “evil force” ties in somehow with the events of January, 2013, and also with the hums/buzzes I’ve been hearing, and the drums that Bob’s been hearing all week, including last night as Bob reports. By Saturday evening, when we came home, Stew’s character was gone. There were no more “evil” encounters that Bob reported either, and Niko seemed back to normal.

When Stewie leaves, his character follows

The arrangement found on my bedside table when I got home from holiday party

The arrangement found on my bedside table when I got home from holiday party

Stewie and his girlfriend (I’ll call her “Minsi” – a Lenape word, hope she doesn’t object) left to go to work the morning after Christmas Day, but Stewie decided to come out again that evening to spend the night. I wondered if his character would disappear or stay; does Nuttah “know” when he’s returning? She seemed to, because even while Stew was gone all day Thursday (12/26) at work, his character remained where Bob had seen it “come in” on my bedside table. We went out to dinner Thursday evening (Yes, even with all that leftover turkey!), and then Stew showed us how to stream movies on our TV. Sad how we can never figure this out for ourselves. After Stew’s visit overnight, he left Friday afternoon. I kept an eye on the arrangement upstairs as I could, and by the time I got up Saturday morning, he was gone.

The arrangement is now on the TV dresser (a very old TV)

The arrangement is now on the TV dresser (a very old TV)

Bob and I had much to do Saturday, and when we returned from dinner late Saturday night, there was a change from the arrangement on my bedside table:  Stew was still gone, but also the entire arrangement had been moved! It was now on our bedroom TV table; a dresser in the corner. It was basically in the same configuration as before, but now right in front of the TV. I’ve included a picture here, and compare it to the thumbnail in the paragraph above. The only real difference is that Bob’s special stone remains on my bedside table and is not part of this arrangement.

Bob had no explanation of this new change, and said he did not feel the presence of Nuttah, nor had he throughout the day. There had only been that very brief encounter when she breezed through to place Stewie’s character on Christmas Day. We’re left to try to interpret. I know it’s where our eyes are always directed, she is literally in front of the TV controls and I have to use the remote, otherwise I would upset this arrangement. Trying to get our attention? I don’t know, but I do know that she has it.

When Stewie visits, so does his character

Whenever Stewie visits, so does his character

Whenever Stewie visits, so does his character

The four days that included Thanksgiving and after, we had lots of visitors coming in and out of the house. On Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, Stewie and his lovely girlfriend came out for an overnight. They arrived about mid-day. Later in the evening, as we were readying to go somewhere, Bob called me over to look at something near my office computer. It was Stewie’s character; he was on the windowsill behind my monitor. I took a picture of it, which I’ve included here. It is so interesting, and also without fail, that whenever Stewie arrives, so does his character. He can pop up in somewhat random odd places, but sure enough, when Stewie visits, his character, from wherever it has been hiding since his last visit, will always come out. Even by Saturday night, after they had left, he still stood there on the windowsill. But then this morning, Sunday morning the 1st of December, he is gone. Where he goes, I do not know, I’ve never come across the character when Stewie is no longer here. All I can say is, Nuttah keeps track of him.

When Stewie visits, so does his character

Where Stewie is "stored" when he is not here, is a mystery. But without fail, when he visits, so does his character.

Where Stewie is “stored” when he is not here, is a mystery. But without fail, when he visits, so does his character.

On September 28, Stewie came out for a long-awaited visit, only the 2nd time since he’d moved back to the area from Virginia in April. He and Bob sat down to watch some college football and I took Red out on this nice fall day for a walk. I went to get my running shoes, and much to my surprise, I find Stewie’s character in my running shoe! I shot a picture before I put my shoes on, and it’s included to the right. To use the shoes, I put Stewie on the buffet chest in our foyer. Stewie was only staying for the day, and left early that evening. In the morning, Bob asked me,
“Did you sense anything last night?”
“No, did you?”, I wondered.
Bob answered that he had just had an impression of “something passing through”, like a “whoosh”.

“Maybe Stewie’s character is gone”, I wondered. I’m not really sure why I instantly thought that, it was just that since Stewie had left, maybe she saw fit to stop in and take him out again. So I went to go check. And sure enough, he’s gone. To wherever he goes when Stewie is not here. Sure enough, he will be out again the next time he visits. Who knows, maybe Stewie’s character follows Stew around. Perhaps he should look around his place, he might be there.

The last time Stew had come out to visit had been Mother’s Day in May. I didn’t post this then because I was still so desperately behind and had so many other posts to catch up on, but it bears inserting now. His character showed up on my desk that day too in an arrangement with Nuttah and a wolf. And of course, right after Stewie left, his character was removed too:

Back on Mother's Day in May, Stew had also been brought out for that visit

Nuttah breezes through and a key has gone missing

2013-08-31-Desk-arrangement-in-officeSunday, September 1, Bob had gone up to take a shower, and when he came out he asked me, “Did you sense something while I was in the shower?”

I replied that I had not, but Bob said he felt something “breeze through” while he was up there. Later, I was in our bedroom, and I noticed Nuttah was no longer on my bedside table. Where was she?

I looked around the bedroom, she was nowhere. So the next place I usually check is the office, and there she was, on a shelf to the right of my desk with a fairly elaborate new arrangement that included wolves, dogs, both me and Bob and Bob’s stone, the bark-hut, turtles, a heart and her “papoose”. See the picture to the left. So she cruised through, and Bob sensed her, and there was a new arrangement to mark the occasion. However, what it all may mean is another story.

A sneak-peak at the downstairs, furnished room of the apartment rental.

A sneak-peak at the downstairs, furnished room of the apartment rental.

There was something else that was going on at this time too. We were soon to have a tenant moving into an apartment space we had created in a separate part of our house. This was the part where all this stuff that has been happening had started in late 2009; the bedroom that included all those episodes with Joe the Cat, and the ducks, and the furniture and all else. It had been flooded in Hurricane Irene (August 2011) and when we fixed it up, we decided we were done with the space for ourselves (I think I mentioned awhile ago how we moved our bedroom into the front part of our house, since Kate and Stewie were now off on their own). Anyway, after all this time, it was finally ready to rent, and since the summer humidity had wreaked havoc, Bob and I were cleaning up back there whenever we had time. The subject of a key to the door had come up, and Bob didn’t think we had one. I spent some time looking around, and miraculously, produced what appeared to be the ONLY key to the apartment. We put it inside a cabinet in the apartment’s kitchen, very deliberately, so that both of us knew where it was. Bob announced, “Here, in this cabinet, above the sink, is where I am putting the only key that we have.” The next time we were out there cleaning, Bob went to check on the key… and it was gone. Of course he asked me if I took it and of course I hadn’t. We looked all over the place and the key was gone. Drat, because it had been the only key, and we had not yet made any copies. We were going to have to figure that out later. We had until mid-September to produce a key, because that was when our potential tenant was supposed to move in. The weird thing was, we kind of started to interpret this as a message: Did Nuttah somehow not want our tenant? Any tenant, or just THIS tenant? The key was gone, and neither Bob nor I had anything to do with its disappearance. We somehow convinced ourselves that Nuttah didn’t want this tenant. And the other weird thing was that we hadn’t heard from said tenant since he’d agreed to take the place and move in. It had been several weeks and move-in time was upon us. So… we thought maybe Nuttah had something to do with the key disappearance, and had also somehow influenced his thoughts and he was NOT going to move in. At this point, when we thought it wasn’t happening, the key somehow miraculously reappeared. So we thought we were tenant-less, but at least we had the key. I think it was the next day, we went out and immediately had 3 copies made. Phew.

Event #295-296, Tuesday Jan. 31, 2012

A close up of Stew's character on the shelf in the hutch. The books are reflected in the glass

Bob wrote me this email Jan. 30th about the previous night: “Lots of drums last night too by the way. I looked to see if Stewie was still in cabinet this morning, initially I thought he was gone, but then realized I was looking at the wrong shelf, there was Stewie standing behind the blue vase with his hand sticking out. So he is still here.”

My response: “I did hear the drums too, when I went to bed, and then when you got up to let Stupe out. I thought initially, that’s what you were up for — investigating noise. Also, I just checked, the Stew character is not there now.”

So, the references above are to the Stewie character that showed up in the china cabinet this past weekend when Stew was home. That was a previous post on January 27. Early Monday morning when Bob left for work, Stew was still in the cabinet. By the time I got up and noticed, his character had disappeared. We still don’t know where he goes when he’s not here, but Stew has come to visit three times since he left the area in October, and each time his character has arrived either shortly before he does, or right after he does.

There was something else that I also noticed on Monday. Opposite our ‘new’ bedroom in the front of the house, there is another bedroom the same size and shape. We have a dresser in there too that I am using. These bedrooms are really small, and we can’t fit everything into one. Monday, I was rearranging some things on top of it, and while doing so encountered Kate’s character on that dresser! When is the last time she has surfaced?? She really has not figured into any of the arrangements since last summer, and has not lived here for a couple of years. We did a lot of moving around of furniture on Saturday, which is why Stew was here, perhaps that is when Kate also appeared. She was still there as of Sat. Feb. 4, but Bob put her away because his sister, Rue is coming overnight again. Here is a picture of how she appeared, and behind her is a baby picture of Kate:

Along with Stewie that weekend, Kate's character also makes an appearance

Friday, I was home and I worked for awhile emptying out a hutch/cabinet of a huge amount of books and stuff because I wanted it moved out of my office. I was going to exchange it for a different set of bookcases that were elsewhere in the house. This piece is, essentially, a dining room hutch, like a china cabinet. Stewie was coming up for the weekend and was going to be able to help us move a lot of stuff around in the house. He was also coming to pick up our little “Wobbler” dog, the one I walk with every morning. He is taking Wobbles to his new apartment with him. I am going to miss my little Wobbler, but a couple of events made this decision for us. First, Stewie wanted him. Second, more than a year ago the wobbler had figured out how to jump out of our yard, and has done so at least half a dozen times. Each time, thus far, he was brought back to us by good Samaritans because our address is on his collar. It was only going to be a matter of time before something tragic happened. We tried many ways to prevent the jumping, but he managed to thwart all of them. So, to Stewie’s he went. And with the china cabinet now empty, we awaited Stewie’s help in moving it. But he wasn’t going to be here ’til Saturday.

During the night (actually early Saturday morning) we were both awakened to some kind of noise outside our bedroom door, which is always closed due to the heat of the stove.  From my side of the bed, furthest from the door, all I can say is that it was a noise that woke me up. Bob is closest to the door, and described what he heard as footsteps of someone (or something) coming up the stairs. I think Bob was already lying there awake. I heard him sit up, and he didn’t get up right away. He said he was watching the door and saw the shadow of something moving past it in the space between the door and the floor, as there is a light on in the hallway that creates a crack of light there. This got him up out of bed, and he went around through another door to check on things, but there was nothing there. Curious that this kind of stuff doesn’t keep us up all night.

Stewie's small character sits in a corner of the emptied hutch, behind a glass panel

However, when we came down in the morning I stopped in the office for something. I don’t know what drew my eye there, but I glanced over at the empty hutch. There was now something in it, and I know it had been completely empty the day before. Inside the glass sliding door of the upper portion of the hutch, was Stewie’s character, which had not been here since his last visit around Christmas.

A close up of Stew's character on the shelf in the hutch. The books are reflected in the glass

And yet, here he was. How did she know that Stewie would be involved in this moving today? Did I mentally picture the hutch being moved by Bob & Stewie as I emptied it? Did she somehow know that Stewie was on his way? However she picked it up, here was his character, and the real Stewie was in fact, on his way. Now I wonder if she will also pick up the fact that Wobbles went with Stewie too.
