“Other Witnesses” – Again

There has not been A LOT going on, but I have now accumulated enough things to make a post about it. Not that any one of these ‘events’ did not warrant their own post at the time, but I just decided to lump them together, for both time and interest’s sake. What sparked this impetus to finally “group-post” these events, was a text from Bob on March 14 at 6:10 pm. I’m at work, and I read,

“Dave had an incident.”

A little panic welled up in me because I knew contractor “Dave” had been at our house that day installing a door. With my compromised close-up vision I initially read the text as “Dave had an accident”. “Oh no”, I was thinking, “What happened?” Auto accident or did he do something bad while installing our door (cut off a finger?). But then I re-read the text and understood the right word – “incident”. Not much better really than “accident”, depending what it was. So what was this incident? This could have many implications. It does not escape my thoughts that leaving Dave (or any contractor) alone in our house working could potentially be problematic. What if Nuttah (and company) decided for some reason they did not want the person here? It would not take much to scare most people away, especially if objects started relocating in front of them. I’m pretty sure I would hightail it out of here. (Something else pretty weird just happened – Contractor Dave just called as I’m in the middle of writing this. It was to confirm another project to start tomorrow, but how weird that just as I’m writing this…) Anyway, back to what happened. I text back to Bob, “WHAT????”

He did not answer. I assumed it was too much to get into via text, and I was right. I would have to wait for our nightly phone call. So this was Dave’s “incident”. Bob described how they were both outside in the driveway. We don’t have many trees in our yard, we are surrounded by trees, but there’s only a handful left that are actually “in our yard”. It is, of course, winter, so the trees are bare. We have this one tree that is an ornamental maple; it has a tiny red leaf and I believe they call it a “Japanese Maple”. Beautiful tree, I think it has a spectacular shape and color, but it is small. Fully grown by now, I don’t think it’s even 20 ft. high or wide. Not sure why, but Bob and Dave are both roughly facing this tree. It’s toward the street, so maybe they were looking at something coming down the street. All of a sudden, out of nowhere, Bob sees the Giant White Bird come in and it awkwardly lands in the small Japanese maple. Now you can imagine that a bird nearly the size of a dog, would do something to a tree with branches that small and thin, and weirdly, this was the only part that Dave could see, he could not actually see the Giant White Bird, he could only see the effect it was having on the delicate tree branches.

“What is GOING ON WITH THAT TREE!?”, Dave exclaimed.

From what Dave could see, the branches were swinging wildly up and down, nearly breaking with the weight of the bird.

“What is DOING that!?”, Dave asks with amazement.

This is my rendition of the large white bird, landing on what amounted to a twig. Imagine the result.

This is my rendition of the large white bird, landing on what amounted to a twig. Imagine the result.

Bob, on the other hand, is more focused on the BIRD, not the branches, but realizes immediately that Dave can’t see the actual bird, only the result of the heavy bird landing. And what is it doing there, why did it come in now? Bob glances over at our side door off the driveway where Niko was. Up to this point, Niko had been agitatedly looking out at Bob and Dave and wanting to be outside with them. Now, as the bird lands and locks eyes with Niko, he goes silent and solemn. This is not the first time that Bob has witnessed this ‘communication’ between Niko and the “Giant White Bird”. Something always changes in Niko with these encounters. But Dave can’t see the bird – he can only see the tree branches swinging wildly. Bob’s explanation to Dave?

“Oh, must have been a chunk of ice that fell and hit it”, Bob tries to explain, thinking fast. Well, there is no ice left in any trees, and no ice on any branches, so Dave says, “I don’t think so”. But since for him, he has no explanation whatsoever that makes sense, he just marvels over what just happened, and they go back to their conversation.

Just a reminder, contractor “Dave” is the same one that sat out on our deck with Bob one afternoon, and had another “encounter” of a sort. I am hopeful that he does not remember that one, because if he does, he will begin to think odd thoughts about this property. Here is a link to that blog entry, when Dave bolted from the deck thinking that the unfinished beer he was in the middle of drinking was too strong: https://whosetimeisit.wordpress.com/2012/07/17/bob-a-guest-have-a-mutual-sighting/

Before this “incident” written about above, there were 2 other things that happened in March. I took pictures of two scenes in early March; one was taken 3/1, the other 3/9. Unfortunately, I don’t have any comments about these two arrangements in any emails, so I’m not really sure if they relate to any specific incident. I do vaguely remember asking Bob on the 2nd one if he “felt any presence”, because I think he’d have either been in the room or in the bathroom when it happened. However, he had not. All I can say about it at this point, is that she was “around” to make her presence known, and that the arrangements must mean something, but we know not what.

This arrangement appeared on my bedside table - Nuttah, papoose, turtle, a couple of wolf-pups, and Bob's special stone

A week later, the whole thing was moved to on top of the TV. Her papoose is behind her. She still sits there today, 3/24/14.

What I found when I got home

It is always an unusual, large, white bird that comes to "talk" to Niko

It is always an unusual, large, white bird that comes to “talk” to Niko

So I mentioned in the last post that I came home to something the night of the “Holiday Party”.  Something had gone on earlier between Bob, Niko, and external forces, and there had obviously been some kind of “visit”. Niko had another encounter with that white bird; that seems to be the way “they” communicate with him. I don’t know what was said, or why, but the visit really seemed to be about him. Much to my surprise, I was not being vilified for asking Bob to get Frank out of the mix of our pups. It just did not seem to be working, although that was a surprise too, since we thought that Frank was more or less “brought” to us as a result of Bob’s dream. But I guess we don’t always read the right message into what’s going on. That is really pretty hard to do sometimes with all this weirdness; to get the message right every time. (I’m open to suggestions!!)

At any rate, of course the first thing I checked coming in the house was my desk. There was nothing new or unusual there, so I went up to check the bedside tables in our bedroom. And it was on mine that I was to find this display. I will put a large version of the picture below, and then continue my commentary below it:

The arrangement found on my bedside table when I got home from holiday party

The arrangement found on my bedside table when I got home from holiday party

It starts with the bark-hut, and in front of that is layered all of the dog/wolf pictures that I’ve made and used to date. Then Nuttah positions her character in front of the dogs/wolves, and lastly, we have the pewter turtle and Bob’s special stone that came from “her” time.  This is arranged to face where I would be if I was in the bed. What does it all mean? I asked Bob the next night to take a look at it, and see if he could “get it”, especially since he’d been part of the communication the night it happened. He had nothing to add. I’m stumped. But I do believe that it means Niko is being celebrated, and miraculously, I am NOT being hung out to dry for Frank not being here anymore. I am guessing that they are accepting of it, thank goodness. Apparently, Niko is our star, and our protector, and maybe they felt he was being threatened. They appeared that night for a reason. The morning after Frank was no longer here, I took all the pups out as usual, and Niko just tore into Red, as if she was now the stand-in for Frank. Niko had just been so wound up by the aggression of Frank that he couldn’t even forget it the next day. Luckily, Red knows how to take all this in stride, and her lack of winding up against him settled things down. (Wish she would behave like that when I’m walking her on a leash) It took a couple of outings for things to calm down to their normal level.

Not AT ALL what I expected

A cut off scene - Holiday work party at a chic country club

A cut off scene – Holiday work party at a chic country club on December 11

On Wed. December 11, in the early evening, while still at work, I received a 3-part text from Bob. I always know these “3-parters” are something of extreme interest, because not only is Bob sending me something rather lengthy, but he’s sending it as a text rather than an email, meaning he wants me to see it right away. I guess I have to explain here that I have not entered the world of “Smart phones”, and my phone is rather dumb. Dumb doesn’t even begin to describe it, but that is another story. People laugh at my phone, I, on the other hand, am quite proud of it. It works, which is more than I can say for the people around me whining about their so-called “smart” phones. This particular text that was coming through, because of its length, I expected to be the fall-out from what had gone on the prior day with Frank.

Red and Frank. Quite a handsome dog he was. I wish it had turned out differently.

Red and Frank. Quite a handsome dog he was. I wish it had turned out differently.

So “part one” came in at 5:23 PM. (I’ve combined the 3 parts here for readability): “Niko just had a white bird encounter coupled with lights in the apartment, and as I am writing this, drums and rattles just started. Going to go take care of lights now. Drums are right above us. We are in stove room. Bird is huge. Landed on rock in creek. Niko sat and put his head down and listened. Drums are right above us in the bedroom, rattles all around. Really weird. Niko and Red keep looking up. Niko whining. Have fun at party.”

Here, Bob is talking about our office holiday party, which was being held this night, Wed., Dec. 11. I am winding up my work-night early, getting ready to drive to the party venue, which starts at 6:30 PM.

Me, back to Bob, at 5:31 PM: “Wow, what do u think it all means?”

I don’t hear back from Bob right away, so at 5:38 PM, I text back to him: “Any more happening?”

Bob, 5:46 PM: “How much more would you like?!! If you were here you would think that enough. Just finished turning lights off, as I walked downstairs, loud drum beats, lights back on.”

(This was in the apartment, as he was going downstairs and leaving, the lights came back on again, while he was there. Not the first time for this.)

By now it was time for me to get going to the company “Holiday” party. When I arrived at this chic country club that was all “decked out” for Christmas, I ducked first into the restroom, and texted this to Bob at 6:26 PM: “Do u sense unhappiness? Were they looking for Frank do you think?”

Bob 6:27 PM: “No, I think it is about Niko.”

Niko in the yard, charging after Frank. I was trying to be "detached and casual" just shooting pictures. Almost lost my camera in the process.

Niko in the yard, charging after Frank. I was trying to be “detached and casual” just shooting pictures. Almost lost my camera in the process.

But by now I had to enter “party mode”, and more or less forget this whole crazy thing going on at the house, but it was in the back of my mind all night. What was going on? What was the message? Were they concerned about Frank? Mad at me? Concerned for Niko? I could only hope that the concern was for Niko, because for sure, the day before, I had felt terrible for what Niko had had to go through. Bob says he never witnessed that behavior between Frank and Niko;  I think it was just escalating, and I think also that Frank had some kind of issue with me as well, otherwise, why would he have turned on me like he had? Niko was trying to protect me, it seems, and was taking a beating for doing so.

I excitedly drove home from the party hoping that somehow, something was revealed. I was not to be disappointed. I will describe (and have a picture of) what I found in the next post.

Another White Bird Sighting

White-Bird-3At the beginning of November, 2013, I began again to hear the “buzz/vibration” that I’ve become so familiar with as heralding their presence. I am pretty sure that the reason it is not heard the rest of the year is weather-related. I think it has to be cooler, and/or not-so-humid for the sound to get through. Both of these weekend days, November 1 and 2, I hear it in our bathroom, but not the rest of the house. It just kind of “popped” in one night, one second not there, then all of a sudden, there it is, and I know they are “with us”.

A couple of days later, on November 4 at 4:21 PM, Bob texts me: “I’m at that intersection, just saw a  BIG white bird fly over”

Me, 4:22 PM: “How big?”

Bob, 4:28 PM: “Two to 2 ½ times the size of a vulture.

Well, that’s pretty big. What is this white bird? Why does Bob see it there? Does anyone else see it? The sightings are always there, this strange intersection where Bob had his closest “near-death” experience in February of 2012 when literally, his car was physically stopped by an unknown force to avoid being T-boned and most likely killed in what would have been a totally horrific and tragic accident. Bob himself made no attempt to stop his car as he approached a green light, but it was stopped for him so severely, that to this day, there are still skid marks on that stretch of highway, as from the left, a car came careening through the intersection, blowing the red light and bottoming out as it screamed through at probably more than 50 mph. Bob was cruising at highway speed, the bypass is 55 MPH, he was moving. It would have been horrific. How was he stopped, and by who? Who saw it coming?

(You tube version, “White Bird”, by It’s a Beautiful Day”)

The next night, on November 5th, I hear a ‘big’ buzz in the bathroom. Bob was taking the pups out to the yard and when he returned, he reported an incident: About 3 or 4 Indian braves had gone flying past him at top speed, they were on their way somewhere. The pups did notice and reacted, but it was all so fast, and they were “invisible”; pups had no time to do anything but notice. Where were they on their way to?

And with that, without a lot of fanfare or bells and whistles, I have FINALLY caught up to current events. The next item that I post, will be the day that it happens, I promise. I am just so glad to be caught up and done, that I never want to get behind again. I feel like Nuttah was sort of “working with me”, since the events were fairly sparse since August, and that allowed me to ever-so-slowly, get caught up. Oh, and I just realized something that I wish I’d remembered yesterday. November 17th was the first birthday of “Papoose”! (The actual date of my posting of this one is Monday, November 18).

Another (the 3rd?) ceremony to honor Niko

Lenape-Turtle-LogoBob wrote this email Saturday morning, 10/13, 8:19 AM:
Had a dream last night. The honoring Niko dream again, only this time Niko/Teme/dukey was at the north cardinal point, covered in some sort of white robe. An emblem on a banner that looked like a white bird, very stylized was held over him by a young boy. Nuttah at the east in red predominant adornment,  she had her baby with her. Old man in yellowish adornments to south and a big joint to the west in primarily blackened clothing. My vantage point was in the middle. All directions offering obeisance,  I think that is right, to the north. Very serious, solemn affair. Remember feeling awe. Nuttah looked healthy, her baby is looking strong and healthy. Lot of pledges to always honor from directional points. Pretty interesting dream. Woke with Niko staring at me around 3:20.

Email from Bob the next morning on October 14, 2013:
I have an increasingly different view of Niko after each incident, may just be delusional, but I see glimpses of things with him that are much deeper than the obvious bond. It is very humbling at moments of recognition. Can’t really explain it, I just know that what we “know” is not all there is, not even a terribly important part of what is.

Me, 10:14 AM: Curious what’s going on with Niko. As I was typing up and posting the stuff that happened in July, I was getting a feeling of something much deeper and significant, but it was eluding me. Maybe it will all become apparent as time goes on.

Walking Red in the local woods

Walking Red in the local woods

Now me just narrating: I do hope that this work honoring Niko has an effect on his behavior. This has been about the 3rd “ceremony” to honor him. I am guessing that there will be four, due to the directional points. There has not been any incident since July, thankfully, and we are now halfway through October. Of course, there is also the fact that we are limiting his contact with virtually anyone, due to the potential of an issue. He seems to be better with the addition of “Red”, the other shepherd. She is the one we are convinced was “brought” to us, possibly to help Niko. There is also yet another dog in our midst now, plenty of pups for the shepherds to herd. Four dogs, two cats, do you think it’s getting out of hand? Dog #4 was a flea-bitten stray that looked on the verge of death when Bob found him curled up in a ball on our property. We kept an eye out for signs in case anyone had lost him or was looking for him, but the way he appeared, his fur about an inch think in flea “dirt”, we really did not think anyone was taking care of him or was much interested in his welfare. He was also completely deaf, so it was a relative mystery how he’d survived. Maybe he was just “meant to be here” as well. We named him “Sprite”. All 4 dogs get along, and we just keep the cats separated and everything is fine.

More Niko-fallout

She had been sitting on the window sill, positioned to look out at Bob... and now? Gone.

She had been sitting on the window sill, positioned to look out at Bob… and now? Gone.

July 8, 2013: As if to emphasize her irritation with us (probably more than just irritated) by Monday night, Nuttah’s character had disappeared. She had been sitting on my window ledge since the post of June 17, where she’d positioned herself presumably to look out at the garden where Bob had been working. I wrote Bob this email when I got home:

11:33 PM: Nuttah is missing – her character is not on the window ledge, where she’s been since she was watching you do something out there (planting?). I looked around in all the usual spots where she might “show up”; she is nowhere. I had a weird sense of something on the way home, perhaps 9:45-ish. Difficult to describe, just a sense that I was experiencing something a bit “surreal”, best way I can describe it.

Niko appears to engage in a non-verbal "conversation" with an unusual white bird

Niko appears to engage in a non-verbal “conversation” with an unusual white bird

Bob responded at 5:30 AM the next morning, July 9:
Rough night last night. Really a mess this morning. Completely out of it, forgot my coffee. Remember how I told you Niko changed his behavior completely after the last “white bird” incident in the tree across the creek that morning? Turns out that was when he fully committed, that he would give himself up to protect us and stay with us. That is what the the encounter was about, him voluntarily making the decision.  It doesn’t surprise me that Nuttah (her figure) is missing, I am surprised that is all that is missing. There is quite a bit of disappointment right now. It is not an easy thing to be subjected to, nor explain. I don’t know about redemption, won’t be easy to convince them. Not looking forward to any more encounters. Hope you slept well, I know you have had to have a better night than I had.

Me back to Bob at 9:14 AM: Sorry you are such a mess this morning. The one big question I have about the messages you are getting and Nuttah’s disappearance is, how did you “abandon him”? The way I see it you defended him, and still do. Even Kate is defending him. So what happened that they feel, or you feel that you betrayed a friend? It seems that you/we are being punished for something we are innocent of. Yes, I agree Niko (or whoever it is in him that does that) needs to be worked with… but we’re not putting him out with the bathwater, by any means. Except for a very low-talking admonishment and a look of disapproval, I didn’t do anything to him – he wasn’t yelled at, hit by anyone, banished to the basement, put out in the yard — so it’s hard for me to understand why she’s being so critical of our reaction. Literally, some people would not have the dog at this point. What did we do? Anyway, that is my big question.

Now me just narrating: What could be the possible answer to this? Why is she so upset with how we handled this? I just don’t get it; she’s removed herself, given Bob countless messages about how we’ve betrayed Niko, and yet we really didn’t even punish him, and probably should have. Kate admits some fault in possibly somewhat “provoking” it. But still… It is not the first time that Niko has behaved this way, so Kate, and whatever she did, is not to blame. Maybe what Nuttah picks up on, is not so much actions, but thoughts. Yes, I had negative thoughts about Niko. Yes, I was angry. Yes, I had some thoughts about the sanity, or lack thereof, of keeping a dog capable of this. I admit it, I had all those thoughts. But why were we being treated like villains? It was curious to me, but I was not going to let it override my mood. Kate was doing well, she was healing, and soon after the stitches were removed, she actually looked pretty good. I was pleased with at least that outcome, and so was she. Where was Nuttah in all of this?

Niko commits to being our “protector”

On Saturday morning, April 13, Bob was up before me, and took the pups out to the yard. Afterwards, he sat down with them, and that is when something happened that would forever change Niko in his relationship to us. Bob then wrote me this email to read when I got up:

WhiteHawk1

Communicating with Niko through the eyes, an enormous white bird transmits information that will change Niko forever

4/13, 8:02 AM: “Just had a white bird, big, like half the size of a heron, land on the sycamore leaning over the creek. It sat and stared at us; Niko and bird were intently focused on each other, there was no barking. The bird just stared at Niko and then at me. I looked at Niko at one point to see him staring intently, it wasn’t just a dog staring, his eyes had an intense intelligence in them, completely focused. I tried to get my camera out to take a picture, but it was too late. When the bird took off, it flew straight up from the tree, it was as if the branches weren’t even there. The bird flew right through them, it was “flying” but not like any bird I have ever seen. It was more like leaping straight up, like a rocket just going straight up, then it was just gone. It was very foggy at the time this occurred, and it disappeared very quickly into the fog. Niko was clearly affected. He then just sat there with his head down in his chest for a few seconds, about ten I would say and then was just back to normal. I am still not quite back. Little unnerved.

When I did get up, Bob told me to read the email before he told me what it was about. After I did, we sat outside with Niko and our other pup, drinking our morning coffee and he tried to explain better what happened, and I’ve written that up here:

Niko appears to engage in a non-verbal "conversation" with an unusual white bird

Niko appears to engage in a non-verbal “conversation” with an unusual white bird

A white bird appears on the sycamore tree on the other side of creek and seems to have an intense “conversation” with Niko. It clearly communicates something to Niko through their eyes, locking onto Niko’s eyes. Bob glanced over at Niko at one point, and sees he is fully engaged by the bird, his eyes seem to change color from their normal deep solid brown to brown flecked with gold and blue. After a short time, the white bird (eagle, hawk-like) then rockets upward through the branches of the tree, in Bob’s eyes, a totally impossible move that it could not have made in reality. There is a heavy cloud cover and it disappears within seconds, so he never really gets to see it spread its wings. Bob glances over at Niko and he has dropped his head to his chest, in Bob’s words, like he is “processing the information” that was just “downloaded” to him. In the days following this, Niko’s behavior changed – he started following Bob wherever he went, including up to the bedroom at night. Bob didn’t discourage this, just found Niko always there when he turned around. The following upstairs is something new, and he now doesn’t come down until I come home and take him downstairs. In fact, I’m sure he hears me come in, but he doesn’t come downstairs until I actually go up there and get him. When Bob is taking a shower, he has to step out over Niko who will be lying on the rug right outside the door. It’s like he has entered into a spiritual or some sort of “contract” to protect Bob.

This is not the first “White Bird” encounter that Bob has had, over these years, an unusual white bird has appeared at times up and down the creek, and it seems to portend something or at times to communicate something. Nuttah would then corroborate the presence of the bird. Once it was what we’ve come to think of as an albino merganser. We’re not even sure that one exists, but this bird would often appear and Bob seemed to be the only one able to see it. The mystery of these white birds is obviously significant, but the meaning is lost on me. I wish I knew or could find out what the white bird signified in Lenape culture.

Another Adventure to the Lenape World

An excerpt of email sent by Bob: April 4, 8:15 AM

Woke up completely out of it this morning. Spent a portion of my night away from home. Did you notice anything? I was back by the creek, upstream, watching the white bird ceremony. The group of guys covering themselves in the mud and something else, not sure what. The old joints were participants, but not in the active manner as the others, more just chanting and shaking rattles occasionally. I sat back in the woods with Nuttah, Mom wolf and the pups. Just watched. The ceremony ended, the men that were covering themselves in stuff went into the water and washed, the bird just sort of hovered around, clearly not afraid. The old joints walked back to us. They started their stuff about being prepared and said what your Mom said to me about needing to survive to take care of you in the event things start to fall apart. I must be more like I was when I was younger, more like I was here (I believe that is a reference to being there and being Nuttah’s father). Be aware of what is around you, you should not be alone. He will find you. ??? I said “who and why”. No response. Thanks. All I got from the old joints from my questions was something I remember from before, they repeated it 3 times, I can still hear it as I write “alewi ki kuwatu” , almost sure I have that right because I hear it, may be off by a letter or two. I know what they were saying when I am there, it becomes somewhat more vague as I remember it, but I will see if you can find anything, I think it has something to do with me knowing the answers. Nuttah said to me “kaski lesiv” or something to that effect, not so sure on that one, but she also repeated it 3 times, she held my hand and squeezed it tighter each time she said it, not sure if it meant anything or if it was her just becoming more urgent. And then it was over and I woke standing in the bathroom. I’m starting to think they have a stake in my survival that goes beyond just caring, maybe not Nuttah, but the old joints. The one old joint travels to the creek for these ceremonies and for the “meetings”, he is not part of their clan/group/village whatever you want to call it. I have forgotten a lot of what I used to know when I was going to see them on a more regular basis!

Excerpt of my response: April 4, 8:50 AM

I found myself for some reason on a post of 4/5/11 and it was about the first white merganser sighting you had: 2 regular mergansers and the one all-white one. The first “alewi ki kuwati” reference in the blog happened on 4/1/10, and that post was about when you found out how she lost you. “Alewi ki kuwatu” is “you know more“. (I have that in the heading of the blog too). I’ll look up Nuttah’s phrase. The other thing I noticed was the buzz pretty strong last night, and then the night before, she had moved her character back to your bedside table. “Kaski” means “You can”. The other word I’m not finding. Any context? An English word I can search on? There does not appear to be a “V” in their language, I could be wrong, but maybe it’s like the Gaelic, which uses a “bh” for “V”, or another combo? The ceremony last year happened on May 26, 2011, that one by the creek where they were smeared with mud. Interesting night though! It’s been a long time. I didn’t notice anything overnight, except I had some pretty vivid dreams.

Then I spent some time trying to look up the translation of Nuttah’s Lenape phrase, and found only this:
How about this for a translation:
kàski në laihòsin.
“You can do that”
Closest word I could find to “lesiv”

Curiously, I am re-reading this and posting it several months since it happened. Reading the part about that mud ceremony in the creek, it reminded me of the first time I’d written about it over a year ago. And I wondered if this ceremony had a special significance for them, so for the first time, I actually did an internet search for “Lenape Mud Ceremony”. It turns out that there is something related to mud, and it is part of their “creation story”. I found this site that describes it quite well. So for the 2nd year, Bob was taken there to be part of this ceremony. The only odd thing is that they occurred on different days of the year: May 26, 2011 the first time, and April 4, 2012 the second. So maybe it has more to do with moon cycles, planetary alignment, seasonal events, than an actual fixed “date”.

Event #265: Saturday, November 5, 2011

The red arrow points to the heart-pendant that is now missing

When we came home the evening of Friday November 4th, the power was finally back on. One week to the day without power. We entered the house realizing how much had been on the day it went out in the middle of that freak October 29th snowstorm: lots of lights were ablaze. But it was cause for celebration, it was a pretty tough week to get through.

My heart-pendant necklace reappears in the office

Around the time that Nuttah’s character went missing though (October 25) something else in the bedroom did too. It was a favorite pendant of mine: the one that Bob got me for Valentine’s Day this year.

I couldn’t pin point exactly when it went missing, but I knew it was gone, and was not sure if I’d lost it while wearing it, but I thought that highly unlikely. I’ve placed a picture of it to the left, with the red arrow pointing at it. Notice that it is, of course, a heart. Only recently, Nuttah had begun to use it in her arrangements. Then Saturday, I came into the office, and there on the pile of papers to one side of my keyboard, was the pendant, on the necklace string I’d last worn it with, which I’ve pictured to the right.

Then later Saturday, I took Wobbles for a long jog on the towpath; roughly 5 miles. About halfway into it, I saw something up ahead of us on the path – something white. At first I thought it was a goose. It was alive, that was clear, it was white, that was also clear, and as I got closer, I could see that it was a large white bird. White Bird! (here’s an opportunity to hear the song again). We got right up to it, and I stopped to look. It was a swan. A very large, white swan. Wobbles wanted nothing to do with it. This was almost comical, I literally had to drag him past the bird, who was not interested in yielding the path to us. As we approached, it stood up, spread its wings and poofed out its feathers so that it was now almost twice its normal size. It was also hissing at us very loudly. I’m familiar with geese; they will sometimes attack. But swans? Well, I’ve never encountered one like this before. What to do. I dragged my so over-protective Wobbles past the bird with me. And when we returned? No sign of it. Only a cat on the canal-bank near where the big bird had been, and an area of white bird-defecation where it looked like it might have spent the night. I’m mentioning this because of the oddity of a white swan in this unusual place, and of course for the fact that it was a white bird sighting. Oh — and it was tagged. A green plastic band on its leg with a C6 on it.
